Position: Finance Assistant


Applications are invited from local candidates for the position of Finance Assistant at the SADC-Development Finance Resource Centre, based in Gaborone, Botswana.


The SADC-DFRC is a subsidiary institution of SADC established as a shared central resource to promote capacity building, policy research and advisory work, and also to promote collaboration between Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) within the SADC region.


Main Purpose

To assist the Finance and Administration Manager on financial and accounting matters, including preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports. The Officer will contribute to the preparation of monthly statements and annual budgets.   


Key Performance Areas

  • Work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager to ensure smooth operation of all finance related matters;
  • Input accounting data into the accounting system with speed and accuracy;
  • Prepare and enter journal entries and adjustments into the accounting system
  • Process banking, including deposits and reconciliations;
  • Process and control payment of invoices and other payables;
  • Issue invoices and manage accounts receivable;
  • Process Value Added Tax (VAT) claims for the Institution and Staff;
  • Maintain fixed assets register; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



A diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. A degree would be an added advantage. Knowledge of computerised spreadsheets (Excel), Microsoft Word, accounting packages and Internet is essential.


Experience and Competencies

  • At least two years’ experience in the accounting field or related;
  • IT skills – MS Word, Excel and exposure to accounting packages;
  • Good teamwork; good written and oral communication and presentation skills; speed and accuracy.
