Small Enterprise Development Corporation (SEDCO) Zimbabwe

Background

SEDCO is a state enterprise under the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development. It was set up in November 1983 as a development finance institution through an Act of Parliament (Chapter 24:12).

Mandate

SEDCO’s mandate is to spearhead the development of viable small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through provision of financial assistance, counseling and related support services, business management training and business infrastructure with the objective of enabling SMEs to make a significant contribution to national economic growth.

Objectives

  • Promote and facilitate the development of SMEs.
  • Help create more employment and income generation for people in Zimbabwe.
  • Sustain economically viable enterprises.
  • Foster self-reliance and greater participation in economic life by the majority of Zimbabwean nationals.
  • Stimulate and increase exports from the small enterprise sector.
  • Help create more wealth through increased productivity in the small enterprise sector.
