DFI Scan Report Complete

This is a comprehensive scan of the status of development finance institutions in the SADC region in terms of institutional structures and regulatory frameworks, and their potential impact on economic and social development  and regional integration in the SADC region.

The scan finds that DFIs have in many instances drifted away from their core developmental mandate, and embraced commercial concerns in an effort to mobilise resources from the private sector, thereby impairing their developmental contribution. The sustainability of some of these institutions is also at risk.

The Scan recommends that governments reconsider their national and regional development finance policies with a view to improving governance, augmenting resource availability and strengthening the core mandates of these national institution and strengthening their partnerships with regional institutions.
